Mates of The Murray

Say hello to the locals — you’ll meet plenty like them when you visit our region

One of the best bits of The Murray isn’t the river. It isn’t the splash of a kayak paddle on the water at sunrise, nor the aroma of freshly baked bread at a country bakery. It isn’t finding just the right line of sight to the ninth hole, or a moment for quiet contemplation of award-winning art.

You see, we do have those things — and plenty of the good stuff, let us assure you. But one of the best bits of The Murray is the people, plain and simple.

You see, it’s the people who leave you with a real impression of a place. They’re the memorable moments you find in between the planned stops. And the anecdotes you tell friends and family back home. Some have lived their whole lives here. Others couldn’t resist the call to make it home. What they all have in common is a real love for the region, and we’ve gathered up a bunch of our mates so you can hear it straight from them. They’re friendly and welcoming, just like the people you’ll find when you pay us a visit.

From Albury Wodonga to Mildura, and some incredible spots in between, we spoke to artists and farmers, a tour guide, a winemaker and even a paddlesteamer captain.

Let us introduce you to The Murray, with a little help from our mates...
